Redox Research Collaborator
Marjorie Lou
Redox & Ocular Biochemistry Expert | Cataract & Retinal Disease Specialist

More Information:
Dr. Lou is an internationally recognized leader in redox and ocular biochemistry with deep expertise in cataract and retinal degenerative diseases. Her career spans top academic institutions and global pharmaceutical R&D, bridging fundamental science with therapeutic development. Following postdoctoral training in ophthalmic biochemistry at the Howe Laboratory of the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary (Harvard), Dr. Lou joined the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Institute as a Scientist and later Acting Head of Biochemistry. She subsequently held senior leadership roles at Alcon R&D Laboratories, where she served as Principal Scientist, Head of Cataract Research, and Director of Degenerative Diseases, leading programs in cataract and retinal degeneration. Dr. Lou later joined the University of Nebraska–Lincoln as the Willa Cather Professor of Biochemistry and a member of the Redox Biology Center. She has received multiple international awards and honorary academic appointments across the United States, Taiwan, and China, and currently holds Emeritus status. Her expertise in oxidative stress, lens biochemistry, and degenerative eye diseases directly supports the development of therapies targeting the underlying biochemical mechanisms of cataract formation and retinal damage. Dr. Lou brings critical translational insight into redox-driven disease pathways and therapeutic intervention strategies.
