Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a major health problem with devastating effects on ocular health in both industrialized and developing countries. This study reviews the development of the aldose reductase inhibitor Kinostat® and how the control of hyperglycemia is critical to minimizing the impact of DM on ocular tissues.
